Cleaning Carpet Tiles the Right Way

Carpet tiles can come unglued and can fray in the wrong places. Protect your house cleaning business from trouble by learning the proper methods for cleaning carpeting tile floor coverings.

Carpeting tiles are different from wall-to-wall carpeting. These tiles are blocks of carpet laid side by side and glued to the floor. Whether choosing to go wall to wall or just doing a section, there are some advantages to carpeting this way instead of whole room or wall-to-wall carpets. The biggest advantage is the fact that if one square gets damaged, it can be replaced.

Cleaning Tips

The first thing to do is to vacuum the floor as normal with a high quality vacuum cleaner that has a true HEPA filter attached. This takes out any dust and allergens that may be present creating a good base for extra cleaning if that is needed.

The process of deep cleaning here is similar to wall-to-wall carpet cleaning. For the professional, shampooing without the right equipment is not generally an option that will work. When your job is finished, most customers will expect to be able to use that room immediately. A wet carpet that has a wait time to dry isn't conducive to that end.

Another reason to use something other than a wet application machine is the fact that without very expensive machinery, the carpet tiles can retain moisture, especially between the grooves. While carpet tiles can cover a rather large area, there are always the grooves to consider when deep cleaning. Many shampoo applications also have a harsh and heavy chemical scent which is not desirable in the finished job.

To successfully and thoroughly clean these tiles and retain this floor covering's color, texture and softness, you will want to use a dry cleaning application. Remember, however, that many carpet cleaning methods starts out as wet applications. It is the process by which it comes up that creates the dry finish with no wet areas or wait times for drying. It's a matter of using the good quality vacuum cleaner to get the dirt out and the dry application deep cleaning since getting the dirt out will greatly increase the cleanliness of the room as a whole.

To successfully clean the carpets after a thorough vacuum with a true HEPA filter, use a product that can be sprayed on and left to dry. Be sure it is dye free, allergen free, scent free and residue free. After it's dry, vacuum the area once more to leave a clean and fresh feeling. Because this type of product dries quickly, the grooves between the tiles will not be disturbed since no wetness will be sitting and compromising the glue under the tiles with any soaking products.

Follow these methods for cleaning carpet tiles and you'll increase the level of customer satisfaction, and keep your clients calling you back again and again.
