Elbow grease is what is needed for a truly cleaning a toilet. It is wise to use eye protection when cleaning the toilet this will save your eyes from any chemical splatters. A stiff bristled brush is the proper tool when learning how to clean a toilet properly. This brush and bristles should be all plastic.
Twisted wire brushes that have bristles poking from it may be cost effective but can scratch the toilet bowl and may cause permanent damage. Rubber gloves are also a required supply needed when cleaning a toilet. Paper towels are used for cleaning the outside of the toilet.
A sponge should never be used, they spread germs and disease.
A toilet cleaner or non-abrasive cleaner is recommended. Comet is a very good option it will not scratch but it will provide the little abrasion needed.
A spray cleaner may be preferred and 409 is a good spray cleaner to use.
A bleach spray can be used but is best to use this if an incident of illness is in the home. This will kill flu like germs and also disinfect the toilet. Bleach cleaners should not be used for everyday cleaning.
How to clean toilet starts by removing any items sitting on the tank, any rugs or mats around the toilet and lid covers. Flush the commode and add the cleaner, not to the water but to the bowl above the water. If you place it in the water it will dilute it. Next scrub the bowl with the brush scrubbing under the rim first, then the bowl and finally the trap. Flush with the lid down. Wipe down the outside of the toilet with a spray cleaner and paper towels.
