Removing Stains
Be the Stain Eliminator. By getting good at removing stains, you can market yourself as a specialist. That's good for your house cleaning business.
Stains can happen anytime, anyplace in the house. Part of your job as a professional home cleaner is to be able to rid the home of any and all stains. It is always a good idea, when first meeting with potential clients, to ask if items in their home have been treated with a stain repellent product. If there are some areas in the home that have not been treated, it would be wise to suggest that they are treated by recommending a method, a product and then adding that into the service provided. This will also help you to determine which products to use for which surface and which stains.
It's good to know a lot of different ways for removing stains. Equally important is knowing the need of the clients well enough to know if there are any family members with allergies or other potential health issues. Armed with that information, the choice of what method to use is easier.
You'll want to know the type of stain you're up against. Stains fall into one of only a few categories. Those classifications (and some examples) are:
Protein Stains
Baby formula
Mud
Pudding
Blood
Tannin Stains
Wine
Fruit juice
Coffee
Tea
Oil-Based Stains
Salad dressing
Butter/Margarine
Cooking fats and oils
Hand lotions
Dye Stains
Grass
Mustard
Cherry
Blueberry
Combination Stains
A combination of any of the above
Some of these classifications need harsher chemicals than others in order to achieve the removal of the stain. In all classifications, the longer the stain sits, the more difficult it is to remove and the more harsh the cleaner is going to have to be. You will have to make your clients aware if any harsher chemical treatments are warranted so that they can either accept or reject any treatments you recommend.
You are like a scientist when it comes to removing stains. If you use the wrong treatment on a stain, the problem will be made worse with irreversible consequences. Using the correct treatment for the correct stain at the correct time make the home cleaning professionals services increasingly valuable over the life of the business. Continuing to learn about various methods all around is perfectly acceptable in running a quality business but knowing the very intricate specific treatment details for such things as stains creates a demand for services which increases the bottom line of the business.
